“The Flash” star Grant Gustin teased what fans can expect from Wally now that Barry has returned from the Speed Force in the CW series.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gustin said that Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) will try to find his place in the team following the return of the original Flash to Central City. “Wally is going on his own journey, where he’s kind of wondering what exactly his purpose is,” Gustin said. “He had always wanted to be a little bit more than he was. I don’t think he loved the idea of being Kid Flash, and I think he thought it was his time, and now Barry’s (Gustin) back and he doesn’t really know how he fits.”

Apparently, adjusting to Barry’s return isn’t going to be easy for Wally. “When Barry was gone, he stepped up. He became the resident Flash in Central City,” executive producer Todd Helbing told Comic Book Resources. “[But] when Barry returns, Wally’s like, ‘Wait a second, man. I was driving the ship for six months. I was doing a great job.’ [So] there’s a lot of figuring out that new dynamic between the two.”

Although Barry was Wally’s mentor, Helbing told Collider that the Scarlet Speedster’s return and his intention to lead the team once again is going to make Wally “bristle a little bit.”

Meanwhile, in next week’s Season 4, episode 3, Harry (Tom Cavanagh) returns to Earth-1 to give Wally a message from Jesse (Violett Beane). While the content of the message is unclear, it would probably explain why viewers won’t be seeing Jesse on the show anytime soon.

Executive producer Andrew Kreisberg previously said that so many speedsters were present in the Season 3 finale that they had decided to “put a hold on” Jesse’s return. “But she has been such a great addition to the show,” Kreisberg said (via Screen Crush). “We’ll see what happens in Season 4.”

While it seems that Beane won’t be reprising her role as Jesse until the latter part of the current season, the actress still has a lot in her plate as she’s been cast in a recurring role on Fox’s new medical drama “The Resident” and is set to star in the 2018 horror film “Truth or Dare.”

“The Flash” Season 4, episode 3, titled “Luck Be a Lady,” airs on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
