Candice Patton as Iris West

While there are a lot fans rooting for Barry (Grant Gustin) and Iris (Candice Patton) to be together on “The Flash,” there are also some viewers who think that the two characters are too "sibling-y" to become a couple. Den of Geek recently had the opportunity to ask Patton what she thought about it, and the 28-year-old actress said that she “absolutely never” felt that the pair’s relationship is more of a sibling love than a romantic one.

“We’ve never spoken about that in the cast or with the producers,” Patton told the website. “That’s something that other people have created, that doesn’t exist. That’s never been an issue for us on the show.”

Although Barry and Iris grew up together under one roof, the 28-year-old actress said that the cast and the producers “don’t acknowledge that they’re brother and sister in any sort of way.” “We share absolutely no DNA. Just to be clear,” she added. “Especially because I’m black and he’s white.”

In addition, with how Iris developed as a character in the past two seasons, Patton thinks that there’s no way the show can prevent Barry and iris from becoming a couple.

“We’ve seen her grow so much since Season 1, where she was a barista at a coffee shop, and then she had an online blog, and now she works at Picture News, and she’s finally got her family situation in order in terms of making peace with her mother and finding a brother, so … I think now she’s moving into the last part of life, which is trying to make the romance thing work,” Patton said.

Although “The Flash” Season 3 will open with the “Flashpoint” story arc, fans can still expect a romantic dynamic between Barry and Iris. “There always and still is a Barry/Iris dynamic [in Season 3], but it’s slightly different,” executive producer Aaron Helbing said (via TVLine).

In the “Flashpoint” story — as revealed in the trailer for Season 3 — Barry never grew up with Iris because both of his parents are alive in the altered reality. Despite that, executive producer Todd Helbing said during the show’s Comic-Con panel last July that “Barry and Iris will ultimately find each other” just like in any timeline.

In fact, Patton and Gustin have already been spotted filming two different kissing scenes since the production on Season 3 started in Vancouver.

Last month, the pair was photographed filming a kissing scene at the Vancouver seawall in False Creek. According to YVRShoots, the duo did the scene over and over again, and was seen dancing and laughing in between takes.

In July, YVRShoots also spotted the two filming a kissing scene at Cambie Village — a community in Vancouver where scenes outside the West’s residence are being filmed.
