When “The Flash” returns later this month, Barry (Grant Gustin) and the rest of Team Flash will attempt to alter events set to happen in the future to save Iris (Candice Patton) from her doomed fate at the hands of Savitar.

“In an upcoming episode, [Barry and the team] learn a little bit more about the future, and they now have a list of things they know will occur between now and May,” executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, according to Entertainment Weekly. “Their operating principle is can they stop enough of these things to change time? They have a little bit of a road map. It reminds me of Oliver’s (Stephen Amell) list [from ‘Arrow’]. They’ve got a mission every week to see if they can change the future.”

Changing the future is something Team Flash hasn’t done before, and that’s one of the reasons why the second half of Season 3 feels a little different from previous episodes.

“Most of ‘Flash’ is about the hold that the past has on you, and how you can’t change your past or the terrible things that happened to you,” Kreisberg explained, as quoted by Collider. “They’ve never really had to deal with knowing something terrible is happening down the pike, and can they avert it?”

While altering the future is an unfamiliar territory for Team Flash, they — on the other hand — may be getting some help from Julian (Tom Felton). According to the synopsis for Season 3, episode 10, Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) offers Julian a job. It remains to be seen, however, whether this job offer has something to do with their mission to prevent Iris’ death. “He feels culpable, and wants to make amends,” executive producer Aaron Helbing told TVLine of Julian, who unwittingly served Savitar as Doctor Alchemy in the first half of the season.

“The Flash” Season 3, episode 10, titled “Borrowing Problems from the Future,” airs on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
