While Lonsdale was photographed in Gustin’s costume, it doesn’t seem that Wally, aka Kid Flash, is taking Barry’s place as the show’s titular character. Because even though Barry (Gustin) is still locked up in the Speed Force at the beginning of the upcoming season, Wally and the rest of Team Flash won’t just let him spend the rest of his life as a prisoner.

According to the San Diego Comic-Con synopsis for the show’s Season 4, members of Team Flash will do everything they can to get Barry out of the Speed Force after mysterious threats start to appear in Central City. “With the fastest man alive now trapped inside an extra-dimensional energy, and unknown dangers lurking in the shadows, it will be up to Team Flash to free Barry from his own personal hell,” reads a portion of the synopsis.

In addition, Lonsdale told Newsweek last month that Wally needs a lot more experience before he can trade his yellow suit for a red one. “I feel as though there is so much story to tell [about Kid Flash] and Wally has so much growing to do,” the Australian actor said. “I’d like to see that journey continue. That’s what I think is important. We need to see how these characters realistically get to where they are headed for.”

While it’s unclear how long Wally will assume the mantle of the Flash, Lonsdale did tell NKD magazine (via Just Jared Jr.) that there will be a lot on Wally’s plate while Barry remains trapped in the Speed Force. “We see Wally with a lot of weight on his shoulders,” Lonsdale said of what fans can expect from his character at the start of Season 4. “Everyone has gone through an emotional rollercoaster by the end of … Season [3] and it’s not a clean, happy ending.”

“The Flash” Season 4 will premiere on Tuesday, Oct 10 at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
