WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD.

The “Flowers in the Attic” sequel has a new Cathy -- but it’s not because “Mad Men” star Kiernan Shipka didn’t “wow” viewers. It’s because Lifetime’s second installment, “Petals On The Wind,” takes place 10 years after “Flowers in the Attic.”

So, who is going to be the new Cathy Dollanganger? According to the Hollywood Reporter, none other than blonde bombshell Rose McIver. Hailing from New Zealand, viewers might recognize the 25-year-old actress from her roles in “The Lovely Bones,” “Masters of Sex” and “Once Upon a Time.”

Entertainment Weekly reported in late January that the three Dollanganger children -- Cathy, Christopher and Carrie -- would be recast with older actors. Carrie’s twin, Cory, would not be recast because the character passed away in “Flowers in the Attic” after falling sick/getting poisoned by his mother. Replacement actors for Mason Dye’s Christopher and Ava Telek’s Carrie have yet to be announced.

The casting switch up comes as a surprise since author V.C. Andrew’s 1980 novel picks up right after the three children managed to escape their grandmother’s home at Foxworth Hall. However, the “Petals on the Wind” novel takes place between the period of 1960 to 1975. During those 15 years, Cathy ends up with a whole slew of inappropriate lovers and gets pregnant -- before deciding to seek revenge against her mother and grandmother.

And while Cathy, Christopher and Carrie will be recast, there are a couple of familiar faces reprising their roles for Lifetime’s second film. Heather Graham will be returning as the Dollanganger kid’s mother, Corrine, and Ellen Burstyn will once again be playing Corrine’s mother, Olivia Foxworth. EW also reports that Dylan Bruce is “expected” to reprise his role as Bart Winslow, Corinne’s new husband -- who has no idea that she’s the mother of three children.

“I’ll just say it’s a very juicy and compelling revenge drama,” screenwriter Kayla Alpert said of “Petals on the Wind” at the January Television Critics Association Press Tour. Filming for Lifetime’s “Flowers in the Attic” sequel is expected to begin soon. What are your thoughts about the recasting? Let us know in the comments section or send a tweet to @AmandaTVScoop.
