Dallas Cowboy Josh Brent was arrested for intoxicated manslaughter Saturday after being involved in a car accident that killed teammate Jerry Brown.

The accident occurred at 2:21 a.m. on Saturday in the Dallas suburb of Irving, according to a statement released by local police.

Police took Brent into custody shortly after and he is reportedly being held in an Irving jail.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a statement Saturday.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. “At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all of those who knew him and loved him."

Brent reportedly hit a curb at high speed and the car flipped over at least one time. Police arrived and Brown was unresponsive and taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

A defensive lineman who went undrafted out of Illinois, Brown was 25-years-old and joined Dallas in October after a stint with the Indianapolis Colts.
