A former editor of one Brazil's biggest newspapers has been ordered jailing by the top court of the country for murdering his ex-girlfriend 11 years ago, a report by Associated Press stated.

The supreme court said that Antonio Marcos Pimenta Neves must serve his 15-year sentence. The 73-year-old former journalist was convicted in 2006 and has run out of appeals.

Neves, who was the managing editor of the newspaper, shot his 32-year-old girlfriend Sandra Gomide to death in 2000. She was then the editor of the paper's business section and had ended their relationship shortly before her murder.

Neves has surrendered himself to police following the ruling, the AP report stated.
