Former New York state Sen. Pedro Espada Jr. and his son Pedro G. Espada have pleaded not guilty to charges that they embezzled more than $500,000 from a clinic they operate in the Bronx, according to NY1.

Espada Jr. was defiant, saying he looked forward to complete vindication. His lawyer Susan Necheles mocked the claim that prosecutors still hadn't figured out what to charge Senator Espada with, that they're still changing the charges.

Espada Jr. and his son have posted $750,000 bail and been ordered to surrender their passports. Jury selection is scheduled for March 12.
