Beach season is right around the corner and you know what that means - skimpy swimwear that will show off every inch of your frame.

Do you feel like you still have not managed to drop those leftover pounds from the holiday season? Belly fat is one of the most troubling weight gain issues for women. Excess weight in the midsection can cause your clothes to become ill-fitting, your confidence to plummet and the odds of health problems to increase.

For those suffering from excess belly fat, there are natural, healthy solutions.  Most recently, Dr. Oz promoted a supplement called forskolin to blast belly fat. Here are five reasons why the natural supplement can work for you.

Forskolin Is Natural

About 15 percent of Americans use a dietary supplement for weight loss, according to the Journal of the American Dietetic Association. Many people turn to natural supplements when attempting to lose weight. Forskolin is found in the roots of an herbal plant from the mint family. Web MD cites that this plant has been used since ancient times to treat health problems such as high blood pressure and chest pains as well as asthma.

Forskolin Can Break Down Excess Fat

Weight gain results in excess fat in unwanted places. Is your bulging belly bothering you? Did you notice some skin folding over your jeans? Dr. Oz promotes forskolin on the grounds that researchers have found it helps to promote the breakdown of stored fats in both animals and humans.

Forskolin Can Release Fatty Acids

Fatty acids metabolism is essential for life and energy production, explains Essential fatty acids, along with fats and carbohydrates, are required to produce enough metabolic energy for your body to move, think, talk, breathe, produce body heat, and everything else your body needs to do to survive. Biochemistry explains the rest. Dr. Oz said that forskolin may also release fatty acids from adipose tissue, which results in increased thermogenesis, resulting in the loss of body fat and, theoretically, increased lean body mass. Thermogenesis is the generation of heat in the body.

Studies Show Proven Results

A 2005 study which observed the effect of forskolin on obese and overweight men showed positive weight loss results in participants. Here is the abstract of the study, run by researchers from the Department of Health, Sport and Exercise Sciences, Applied Physiology Laboratory at the University of Kansas:

Objective: This study examined the effect of forskolin on body composition, testosterone, metabolic rate, and blood pressure in overweight and obese (BMI greater 26 kg/m2) men.

Research Methods and Procedure: Thirty subjects (forskolin, n = 15; placebo, n = 15) were studied in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study for 12 weeks.

Results: Forskolin was shown to elicit favorable changes in body composition by significantly decreasing body fat percentage (BF%) and fat mass (FM) as determined by DXA compared with the placebo group (p less0.05). Additionally, forskolin administration resulted in a change in bone mass for the 12-week trial compared with the placebo group (p less 0.05). There was a trend toward a significant increase for lean body mass in the forskolin group compared with the placebo group (p = 0.097). Serum free testosterone levels were significantly increased in the forskolin group compared with the placebo group (p less 0.05). The actual change in serum total testosterone concentration was not significantly different among groups, but it increased 16.77 plusminus 33.77% in the forskolin group compared with a decrease of 1.08 plusminus 18.35% in the placebo group.

Discussion: Oral ingestion of forskolin (250 mg of 10% forskolin extract twice a day) for a 12-week period was shown to favorably alter body composition while concurrently increasing bone mass and serum free testosterone levels in overweight and obese men. The results indicate that forskolin is a possible therapeutic agent for the management and treatment of obesity.

Easy Dosage and Inexpensive

Dr. Oz said that only one dosage of 125 mg of forskolin in the morning is enough to give you the amount you need to potentially help lose that excess belly fat. Make sure that the forskolin supplements you purchase contain 20 percent forskolin. Anything else will have a reduced impact on fat burning, said Dr. Oz. Unlike some supplements that cost well over $100, supplements of forskolin are relatively inexpensive. Amazon currently offers a product of 125 mg 20 percent forskolin costing just $24.89 for 120 vegetarian capsules.
