Four Marines Arrested In Beating Of Gay Man In Long Beach, Calif.

Lance Cpl. Lewis Serna, Lance Cpl. John O'Leary, Pfc. Thomas Pentek and Pfc. Sean Miller are facing assault charges for the beating, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The victim, who asked not to be named, said he was attacked outside the Silver Fox around 1:30 a.m. Sunday while out with his boyfriend.

"I remember blacking out," he told CBS News' Stacey Butler. "All I remember is being put next to the curb."

According to the man, the four Marines also repeatedly used anti-gay slurs during the attack.

"He starts pushing me and calling me f--. I told him I was gonna call police," he said to KCAL-TV while wearing crutches and hiding his face from the camera.

"I don't want them to see who I am. They have friends out there," the man said.

While the man refused to give his name, the Times and KCAL-TV have both identified the man as a full-time film student from San Dimas.

The victim's boyfriend, a man named David, told KCAL he was too terrified to react to the attack.

"You just saw fists, and muscles, and tattoos, and all those guys were on top of him," David said.

According to David, Silver Fox bartender Charlie Harris deserves much of the credit for saving the victim from further harm. Harris reportedly fought off the Marines until police arrived on the scene.

According Maj. Manuel Delarosa, the Marine Corps will hold its own investigation of the beating as well as cooperate with local law enforcement "to ensure we have a full understanding of this incident."

"This is behavior that's not acceptable in the Marine Corps," Delarosa told the LA Times. "Any crimes of intolerance are unacceptable."

The four Marines were arrested on Monday and are currently free on bail. All four have reportedly returned to Camp Pendleton.
