Fox Latin America is in trouble after asking users in a poll whether Jewish people are responsible for the death of Jesus Christ.

The poll - meant to promote the National Geographic Channel's Christmas special - asked readers on Facebook whether they thought Pontius Pilate, the Jewish People, or the High Priests were responsible for Christ's death.

The Simon Wiesenthal Center in Buenos Aires quickly denounced the inflammatory poll and asked for Fox to apologize for the poll.

Fox spokeswoman Guadalupe Lucero apologized for the Facebook poll and said that measures have been taken to prevent inflammatory poll questions in the future.

We sincerely apologise for the publication of a poll that might have unintentionally given place to interpretations, opinions or expressions of intolerance affecting the Jewish community, she said. We deeply regret the incident.

The issue of whether Jewish people caused the death of Jesus Christ has been a hotly debated issue for hundreds of years. Dr. Shimon Samuels, the director of international relations for the Wiesenthal Center, said that slurs like the one Fox said resulted in persecution and murder of Jews for two millennia.
