Personal finances continue to offset the progress in the second largest economy in Europe; France. Household confidence fell for the first time in almost half-a-year in December, reaching -36.0, compared with the previous revised -33.0 in November.

December reading is considered the worst since August 2010. Analysts expected confidence to drop to -31.0. The French economy expanded during the third quarter of 2010 by 0.3 percent, compared with the previous preliminary reading that witnessed a growth rate of 0.4 percent and second quarter expansion of 0.6 percent.
