France's economy, which contracted from April to June, will continue shrinking from July through September, officially putting Europe's second-largest economy into recession, its second such setback in three years.

The Bank of France's prediction, released Wednesday, noted that the economy showed no growth in the first quarter, fell back 0.1 percent in the second quarter and is expected to continue contracting at that pace in the current or third quarter.

France emerged from its previous recession in the spring of 2009.
