Freddie Mac on Tuesday named Charles Ed Haldeman as their new chief executive officer effective August.

Haldeman, 60, was chairman of Putnam Investment Management LLC, the investment advisor for the Putnam Funds, until June 30.

Haldeman joined Putnam in 2002, is credited with restoring the firm's standing with regulators after a series of trading scandals.

Freddie Mac's interim CEO, John Koskinen, since March will return to his post as non-executive chairman after serving as interim following the sudden resignation of David Moffett.

Koskinen described Haldeman in a statement as having a wealth of experience in finance and an impressive record of successfully leading companies through challenging transformations.
