A freight train exploded around 2 a.m. CEST in Belgium near Schellebelle and Wetteren after several rail cars carrying chemicals derailed, causing a massive fire near the city of Gent.

More than 300 residents were evacuated from the area by local authorities. No injuries were reported according to the operator of the railway network in Belgium, Infrabel. Het Laatste Nieuws (The Latest News, translated in English) reports that residents within a 1,000-meter radius of the accident should keep their windows closed.
