RTTNews - Thursday, data released by statistical office INSEE showed that confidence among French businesses improved slightly in July.

The business confidence indicator rose to 78 in July from 76 in June, upwardly revised from 75 reported earlier. Economists were looking for a reading of 77.

The business confidence indicator rose for the fourth month in a row, but still remains at a low level, the INSEE said. The turning point indicator stabilizes in the favorable area.

The personal production outlook indicated that the weakening in the manufacturing industry is likely to continue in the coming months, though at a slower pace. The corresponding indicator rose to minus 14 in July from minus 18 in the previous month, in line with economists' expectations.

Meanwhile, the general production outlook that represents business leaders' opinion on French industry as a whole, remained negative. The indicator showed a reading of minus 40 for the second month in a row, while economists had expected it to improve to minus 38.

The report noted that total and export books are at very low levels.
