RTTNews - Friday, the French statistical office INSEE said consumer price index or CPI dropped 0.3% year-over-year in May, compared with a 0.1% increase in the previous month. This was the first decrease since 1957. Economists were looking for a decline of 0.2%.

The CPI for all households rose 0.2% month-on-month in May. The monthly inflation rate came in line with economists' expectations.

The core CPI rose 1.6% year-on-year in May, and it was up 0.1% compared to the previous month.

The harmonized index of consumer prices increased 0.3% annually in May, faster than the economists' expectations of 0.2%. The HICP rose 0.1% compared to the preceding month.
