French industrial production dropped 1.4% month-on-month in March after falling revised 0.9% in February, the statistical office INSEE said Monday. Meanwhile, economists had expected just 0.5% decline.

Manufacturing production was down 1.1% from February, while the consensus forecast was for a 0.5% fall. It follows a revised 0.8% contraction in February.

In March, manufacture of coke and refined petroleum products fell 2.1% and that of electrical and electronic equipment was down 1.7%. At the same time, production of transport equipment rose 1.3%.
