The French Open draw has been released, with defending champion Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, arguably the tournament's greatest player, in position to meet in the semifinals. Top-ranked Andy Murray, who reached the final last year, enters the Grand Slam tournament as the No. 1 seed.

Murray opens against 26-year-old Russian Andrey Kuznetsov, who is ranked No. 85. The winner of the match will face the winner of Laurent Lokoli, a 22-year-old French player, and No. 49 Martin Klizan of Slovakia. It's possible Murray could face Juan Martin del Potro, who has been battling shoulder and back problems, in the third round. Should Murray advance to the semifinals, he could face No. 3 seed Stan Wawrinka, who won the French Open in 2015.

While Murray and Wawrinka highlight one half of the draw, the other half might be more intriguing. Not only are Djokovic and Nadal in the same draw, but so are No. 7 Dominic Thiem and sixth-ranked Milos Raonic. Thiem recently defeated Nadal in straight sets in Rome, before falling to Djokovic in the semifinals.

Djokovic is the No. 2 seed and starts the tournament against 31-year-old Spaniard Marcel Granollers, who has advanced to the fourth round three times. The winner of the match will face either No. 57 Joao Sousa of Portugal or No. 61 Janko Tipsarevic, who like Djokovic is from Serbia.

Nadal enters the tournament as the fourth seed and will begin his quest for a 10th title against Benoit Paire of France. Paire is ranked No. 45 and has never advanced out of the first round in Paris. Should Nadal advance, he will face the winner of No. 46 Robin Haase of the Netherlands and 18-year-old Alex De Minaur of Australia.

One prominent name absent from Paris is Roger Federer. The 2009 champion decided to skip the red-clay courts of Roland Garros to focus on upcoming grass-court and hard-court tournaments.

The French Open begins on Sunday. This year's prize money is $35.8 million.
