RTTNews - Tuesday, the French Customs Office said the trade deficit narrowed to EUR 2.72 billion in May from EUR 3.84 billion deficit in the previous month. Economists had expected a deficit of EUR 4 billion. A year earlier, the deficit was EUR 5.06 billion. In April the trade deficit was narrowed from EUR 4.04 billion.

Exports amounted to EUR 28.04 billion in May, up from EUR 26.83 billion in April, while imports increased to EUR 30.76 billion from EUR 30.67 billion in April.

The customs office attributed the narrower deficit to a strong increase in aircraft sales in May. During the month, 26 aircraft were delivered worth EUR1.63 billion compared to EUR1.36 billion for 26 aircraft in April.
