Samsung is all set to ship the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 on October 2 and the company offered a glimpse of its new tablet on Monday. The company also announced that the Android-powered tablet is already available for pre-orders, at Samsung's Web site. The 16GB Tab 8.9 is priced at $469 and the 32GB Tab 8.9 is priced at $569.

These three additions (the Galaxy Tab, the Galaxy Player 4.0 and the Galaxy Player 5.0) to the Galaxy family of products are impressive examples of our commitment to offering consumers an unrivaled array of choices for entertainment and information on-the-go, Dale Sohn, President of Samsung Mobile, said, while displaying all the products.

People want their mobile devices to fit their lifestyle and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the Galaxy Players offer unparalleled power and portability to meet the widest consumer needs,” he added. The Galaxy Tab 8.9 was announced earlier this year, along with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 at the CTIA show in Orlando.

The 8.9 Tab is a mere 8.6 millimeters deep and boasts a light and portable design; the whole unit weighs less than a pound. It has a multi-touch WXGA TFT display, which is smaller than Tab 10.1. The tab will support 1080p HD video playback and comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, USB 2.0 and Bluetooth 3.0 for connectivity. The Android 3.2 powered tablet includes a 1.5GHz, dual-core T205S central processor, a 6,100 mAh battery, mobile printing capabilities, a rear-facing 3-megapixel camera and a front-facing 2-megapixel camera with flash and autofocus, as well as 1080p video playback.
