Is 'Game Of Thrones' New On Memorial Day Weekend? 'GoT' Season 4, Episode 8 Preview

'Game Of Thrones' On Memorial Day Weekend
Will a new episode of "Game of Thrones" Season 4 air on Memorial Day Weekend? HBO

Sorry, sports fans, "Game of Thrones" Season 4 won't air a new episode on Memorial Day weekend. Movies thrive on the holiday weekend, but television doesn't have the same tradition and "GoT" fans will have to wait another week before "Game of Thrones" Season 4, episode 8, "The Mountain and the Viper," airs on HBO.

Warning: Full "Game of Thrones" Season 4 spoilers ahead.

HBO left fans in shock after "Game of Thrones" Season 4, episode 7, "Mockingbird." Tyrion's attempts to find a champion for his trial by combat were pretty unsuccessful, with Jaime and Bronn turning down the opportunity to face the Mountain, Ser Gregor Clegane. Luckily, Tyrion manages to find a glimmer of hope as Oberyn Martell, the Red Viper, will serve as his champion. The Red Viper's quest for revenge has been a major storyline throughout "Game of Thrones" Season 4. Oberyn wants to avenge the death of his sister, Elia, at the hands of the Mountain, and Tyrion's trial by combat gives him the perfect opportunity to exact revenge.

While everybody will be rooting for the Red Viper, the fallout from another major moment in "Mockingbird" will receive plenty of attention in "The Mountain and the Viper." Lord Petyr Baelish has only loved one woman, and Lysa was shown the exit via the Vale's Moon Door. What that means for Littlefinger, Sansa and little Robyn remains to be seen, but it's clear Lord Baelish is a major player in the game of thrones.

Mance Rayder and the Wildling attack on Castle Black is another major storyline that has been brewing since "Game of Thrones" Season 3. Other "Game of Thrones" Season 4 storylines that will see major developments as the season ends include Daenerys' reign as Queen of Meereen, Stannis' trip north, Ramsey's attempt to capture Moat Cailin, Bran's quest to find the three-eyed raven and the road-tripping odd couples of Arya and the Hound as well as Brienne and Podrick.

Based on the episode synopsis for "Game of Thrones" Season 4, episode 8, "The Mountain and the Viper," the trial combat will happen, Ramsay will attempt to capture Moat Cailin and it looks like the Wildlings south of the group that includes Ygritte and the Thenn, will be featured in the episode.

"The Mountain and the Viper" preview doesn't offer more hints at other storylines but does provide a quick glimpse at the duel between the Red Viper and the Mountain.
