“Game of Thrones” Season 5 featured many shocking scenes. Some of the cast members recently talked about their scenes in HBO-exclusive interviews. Meanwhile, another report takes a look at some of the best costumes from Season 5. [Spoiler alert]

HBO has posted a compilation of cast member comments about Season 5 on the official Making 'Game of Thrones' website. The cast members spoke about coming back to the show and also about some of the death scenes.

The first episode of Season 5 featured the brutal death of Mance Rayder (Ciaran Hinds.) The character was burning alive on a pyre, but Jon Snow (Kit Harington) fired an arrow to end his misery. "Mance has always been about stopping the killing. That touched Jon Snow somewhere," Hinds said.

Tom Wlaschiha knew that his character, Jaqen H’ghar, doesn’t appear in the novels written by George RR Martin. H’ghar gives Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) an iron coin and then leaves. Wlaschiha said he was hoping to return to the series, but noted that what one hopes for often doesn’t happen.

Jon Snow executed Janos Slynt (Dominic Carter) in Season 5. "Although Jon may not know it, beheading Janos Slynt, he's actually avenging his father's death," Harrington said.

Another shocking event that marked a departure from the books was when Petyr Baelish (Aidan Gillen) left Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) with the Boltons at Winterfell. "He has a sense that it's not going to be easy, but what's unfolding at the moment with Sansa and the Boltons at Winterfell is probably one of his audacious and risky plays yet," Gillen said.

Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) had to endure the humiliations of imprisonment and the Walk of Shame because of a confession by Lancel Lannister (Eugene Simon.) Simon said it wasn’t difficult for his character to confess his sins about his relationship with Cersei and that the “real issue” for him was to redeem himself -- and for that he needed to bring Cersei with him.

The two biggest action sequences in Season 5 were the battle with the army of the dead in “Hardhome” and Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) escaping on Drogon at the fighting pits. Harington praised the extras in the battle scene, saying the actors were some of the most hardworking people he got to work with.

Cast member Michiel Huisman (Daario Naharis) said it was “almost divine” to see Daenerys fly away.

The cast members got to wear some elaborate costumes on the show and Ani Bundel of Winter is Coming has listed 25 of the best from Season 5. They include the ones worn by some of the extras on the set, like the Daenerys Cosplay, and the costumes worn by the Sand Snakes, who were introduced in Season 5.

Production of Season 6 is expected to begin soon. Details about the filming locations have yet to be confirmed by the producers.
