It looks like big things are in store for one of Westeros’ smallest men. A new promotional poster for “Game of Thrones” Season 5, depicts Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) in what is either a very dire situation or a very convenient power grab.

The image, which was revealed on Friday, according to Entertainment Weekly, shows the character standing at the stern of a ship staring calmly at what appears to be one of the dragons mothered by Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). The photo comes after the reveal that the disgraced Lannister son would be joining the Queen of Dragons in the highly anticipated upcoming season.

The poster connects a few dots that fans have been curious about since the Season 4 finale. When last we left the two characters [SPOILER ALERT] Tyrion was officially a fugitive from King’s Landing. After being framed for the death of King Joffrey Baratheon, and spectacularly losing his last-ditch trial by combat effort, he was sentenced to death. Before he could have his head chopped off by the executioner, his brother Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) busted him out of jail. Instead of letting Varys (Conleth Hill) whisk him away to freedom, he made a pit stop to kill his former lover Shae (Sibel Kekilli) and his father Tywin (Charles Dance). When his crime is discovered, Varys joins him on the escape boat to … somewhere.

It wasn’t until the official Season 5 trailer debuted along with the historic IMAX release of the final two episodes of Season 4 that fans learned where the dynamic duo were headed. In the trailer, Varys teases his friend with an ally that could help him regain what he’s lost.

“The seven kingdoms needs a ruler loved by millions with a powerful army and the right family name,” Varys says.

“Good luck finding him.”

“Who said anything about ‘him’?”

It looks like Tyrion’s first move as a free man will be to link up with Daenerys and aid her in her bid for the Iron Throne.

Then again, it’s possible that the poster isn’t teasing anything quite as kind for Tyrion. The last time the viewer saw Daenarys, she was forced to chain up two of her dragons. It’s possible that the dragon Tyrion is coming face-to-face with is not under orders from its mother, but is instead going rogue. Is there anything more terrifying than a boundless dragon? Perhaps an Imp with nothing to lose?

“Game of Thrones” Season 5 premieres on HBO April 12.
