Jaime Lannister
Will Jaime Lannister’s (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) relationship status change in Season 7 of “Game of Thrones” now that his lover’s risen to power? HBO

With “Game of Thrones” Season 7 looming, fans have a lot of questions about what’s to come. One of the biggest of those remains what will become of Jaime and Cersei Lannister now that she’s seated on the Iron Throne?

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays the one-handed Lannister, clued viewers into what they can expect. While he was tight lipped on precise details, the Danish actor nearly shared a major spoiler with the Daily Beast. He suggested that Jaime and Cersei (Lena Headey) won’t let her new role tear them apart.

“He’s not like his sister and brother, but he’s been on the battlefield his whole life, and knows about people’s weaknesses and loving something unconditionally because he loves his sister unconditionally,” Coster-Waldau said. “Plus, there are no other suitors. Well, that’s not true...but he has to step up and take his father’s place. Wow, I was about to reveal something from Season 7 and thought, ‘What am I doing?’”

What exactly that means is hard to say, but that hasn’t stopped “Game of Thrones” enthusiasts from speculating. Many feel Coster-Waldau was insinuating that another man will vie for Cersei’s affections in Season 7. That, or she’ll find herself in another marriage of convenience or power.

How will Cersei Lannister’s (Lena Headey) relationship change now that she’s the queen of the Iron Throne? “Game of Thrones” fans will have to wait until Season 7 to find out. HBO

Coster-Waldau’s comments come amid speculation that his character would turn on his sister/lover in Season 7. While it no longer appears that’s the case, Jaime will experience a major turning point on “Game of Thrones.” The actor said his character will have an introspective experience.

“Jaime’s addicted to something — almost institutionalized by a situation to where there is no other way,” he said (via Daily Beast). “For Jaime, there is no other way. He’s been groomed since he was 15 that, whatever his life is, it starts and ends with Cersei...He’s done that his whole life, and he’s reached a moment now where he suddenly has to address it.”

When asked whether that meant ending their relationship, the actor played coy. He wouldn’t say for sure, but entertained theories. When asked if Jaime will kill Cersei in Season 7 of “Game of Thrones,” Coster-Waldau seemed amused.

“That’s a great theory,” he said smiling.

“Game of Thrones” returns to HBO July 16.
