Will Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) be killed in Season 7 of “Game of Thrones.” HBO

“Game of Thrones” fans have been theorizing away about what will happen in Season 7. Perhaps the most popular of all fan theories is that Cersei Lannister — currently seated on the Iron Throne — will be killed when the show returns to HBO.

The theory stems from a prophecy by Maggy the Frog (Jodhi May), featured in both Season 5 of the show and one of George R.R Martin’s books, that accurately predicted her relationships with both Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) and her brother Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), the deaths odf her three illegitimate children, and her loss of the throne. Maggy’s prediction also suggests that Cersei (Lena Headey) will be killed by the Valonqar, or little brother in High Valyrian. There’s been much speculation among fans about who that may be, but a new theory centers around the idea that it’ll be Jon Snow (Kit Harington) who kills her.

“To quote the end of Cersei’s prophecy: ‘When your tears have drowned you, the Valonqar shall wrap his hands around your pale white throat and choke the life from you,’” Reddit user Dremling recalled. “...Jon Snow is a Targaryen. He is the little brother of Rhaenys and Ageon. He wants to kill Cersei. I think it is very likely that he does.”

As the theory notes, Jon isn’t the only one who “Game of Thrones” fans believe is capable of killing Cersei in Season 7. Some also believe that Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), who has Cersei on her kill list, we be the one to do her in. The Independent notes that while she’s not a little brother, the term Valonqar could be gender neutral — It seems worth noting that Arya also disguised herself as a boy in early seasons of “Game of Thrones.”

Since the Maggy the Frog theory resurfaced, a number of theories have been born from it. Early speculation on Reddit suggested that the younger brother in question will be one of the Clegane brothers. User BertMacGyver believes there will be a trial by combat between The Mountain (Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) and The Hound (Rory McCann) to determine whether Cersei will live or die. The Hound will win, killing his older brother and ultimately sealing the Queen’s fate.

“I’m convinced that there will be a trial by combat to determine if Cersei will be put to death and it will be a fight between the Cleganes and the Hound will win,” the post read. “Meaning that the prophecy that Cersei will be killed by the ‘little brother’ will come true.”

Another popular theory about Cersei’s death involves brother/lover Jaime. Some “Game of Thrones” fans seem to believe that he’ll reach his breaking point in Season 7, turning on Cersei. Coster-Waldau was confronted about this idea during an interview with Daily Beast, calling it “a great theory.”

Will Cersei live or die? You’ll have to tune in to “Game of Thrones” July 16 on HBO to find out.
