“General Hospital” will say goodbye to actor Anthony Geary this summer, and some of the show's old cast members want to come back to give the 68-year-old a big send off. Primetime TV stars Jonathan Jackson and Nathan Parsons will return to the ABC soap opera for Geary’s final episodes.

Geary has played Luke on the daytime drama for 37 years. During that time his character has had a few sons, played by both “Nashville” star Jonathan Jackson and “Originals” actor Nathan Parsons, Entertainment Weekly reports. Although the actors left the soap opera, the writers didn't recast or kill their characters, allowing for them to return for special events like this.

Jackson spent several years on “General Hospital” as a teenager. He originated the role of Lucky in 1993 at age 11 and remained on the show until 1999. He returned 10 years later for a two-year stretch before winning the role of Avery in ABC's “Nashville.” The 33-year-old has spoken very highly of his experience on the show and of Geary.

“[Anthony Geary] means so much to me and to my journey in life. I started acting on General Hospital when I was eleven years old, so I really grew up under his care along with Genie Francis [who played Luke’s wife Laura],” Jackson revealed to Smashing Interviews Magazine last month. “They shaped me as a young artist and provided the atmosphere for me to learn from them in a way that was just so free. They never really treated me like a kid.”

Jackson made it clear that he was up to returning if his schedule allowed. “At least they didn’t kill him off, although that hasn’t necessarily stopped people from returning before,” he said. “But, yeah, it’s always a schedule thing. I’ve always tried and wanted to be able to do that from time to time.”

In the past Parsons has been similarly enthusiastic about the idea of returning to "General Hospital." “They call every now and then and ask if I'd be interested in coming back for something longer,” the actor told TV Guide in 2013. “If the situation is right, I'd absolutely do it, but things have been pretty busy lately and pilot season is happening. So we'll see.”

The actor, who currently plays werewolf Jackson on the CW’s “Originals,” played Luke’s son Ethan from 2009 to 2012. Parsons, 26, previously returned to the show for a guest appearance during the 50th anniversary episode in 2013.

Jackson and Parsons will return as Lucky and Ethan sometime this summer, but dates have not been specified. However, Entertainment Weekly notes that it would be “a short arc.”
