George Clooney is a devoted liberal has lent his celebrity status to a number of causes including war and environmental issues. Last March, Clooney was arrested outside of the Sudan's embassy in Washington, D.C. while protesting the country's hunger crisis. The Oscar winner has remained a vocal supporter of President Barack Obama since 2008. The actor's views have also been a prevalent part of his work as well. Clooney has directed a starred in a number of political films such as "Good Night and Good Luck" and "Michael Clayton." His staunch beliefs were no doubt influenced by his father Nick Clooney, a notable political journalist. But that's not the only political branch in his family tree. According to the New York Post, the Oscar winner is purportedly a distant cousin of Abraham Lincoln.
Angelina Jolie is one of Hollywood's most devoted activists. In 2003, Jolie became the first person to be awarded the Citizen of the World Award, which was presented by the United Nations Correspondents Association and in 2007 was given the Freedom Award by the International Rescue Committee. As a Goodwill Ambassador for the UNHCR, the actress has travel to war-torn regions such as Afghanistan. The actress is currently raising six children with partner Brad Pitt. Three of her children were adopted from three different impoverished nations--Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Vietnam. Earlier this year, the Oscar winner made her directorial debut with the "In the Land of Blood and Honey," which shed light on the horrific 1992 in Bosnian War. Jolie has publicly spoken about her complicated feelings about Obama. "I think there are many, many things I think have gone in a wonderful direction and there are a few things I am disappointed in but I don't feel like tonight is the night to clarify," she told the Daily Caller earlier this year. "But there are many wonderful things that have moved forward, and of course, some other things that are very frustrating."
In 2009, Matt Damon, along with such celebs as Brad Pitt and George Clooney, developed the Not on Our Watch--which aims to assist countries that require humanitarian aid. Damon is one of the founders of the H20 Africa Foundation, an organization that aims to provide clean water in Africa and is the spokesperson for the hunger relief program Feeding America. The actors has also been upfront about his shifting opinions regarding Obama. Though the actor initially supported Obama in 2008, he has since changed his view. "I've talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level. One of them said to me, 'Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politician,'" Damon told Elle in 2011. "You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of the country, much better."
Clint Eastwood, who has referred to himself as an Eisenhower Republican, has never been shy about expressing his political beliefs. As the Daily Beast reports, the iconic film star publicly supported Richard Nixon in the late '60s and early '70s and supported John McCain during the 2008 Presidential Election. In August, Eastwood appeared at the Republican National Convention and engaged in a 12-minute argument with a chair that was meant to represent Obama. The now infamous "chair incident" was listed by CNN as one of the top moments that defined the 2012 presidential race and America. Last month the actor appeared in a TV ad supporting Mitt Romney.
