There's no debate that he's one of the wealthiest actors in Hollywood, but it appears George Clooney may actually have even more money than expected.

In a recent episode of MSNBC's Headliners (via E! News), Clooney's friend Rande Gerber, who is married to supermodel Cindy Crawford, revealed that back in 2013, the actor not only paid for 14 of his closest friends' taxes for the year, but also have them each $1 million.

Gerber, who is a part owner of the Casamigos Tequila Company he founded with Clooney (Clooney sold the company for $1 Billion earlier this year), revealed that the group of men, whom he and Clooney refer to as "The Boys," were all invited over for dinner at the actor's home on Sept. 27, 2013, and found black suitcases at each of their spots around the table. When they opened them, they each found $1 million in cash in $20 bills.

Gerber recalled that Clooney said it was his way of thanking them all for the various ways they helped him early in his career, and when they opened the cases, they were all in shock over what they found.

"Every one of us—14 of us—got a million dollars. Every single one of us. We're in shock. Like, what is this? He goes, 'I know we've all been through some hard times, some of you are still going through it. You don't have to worry about your kids, you don't have to worry about, you know, school, you don't have to worry about paying your mortgage,'" he said.

"One was working at a bar in Texas at the airport, trying to support his family," he added. "Rides a bicycle to work every day. I mean these are guys that took care of George and now he's giving it all back. And George said, 'Not only that, I have paid everyone's taxes so this million dollars is yours.'"

Gerber also admitted he tried to give the money back, but Clooney said if he did that no one would receive it, so he took it and donated the gift to charity.

This new story seems to indicate that the actor's net worth is actually even higher than expected, though, according to Celebrity Net Worth, at the start of 2017, Clooney's acting, directing, screenwriting and producing credits, as well as his partnership in Casamigos, saw his net worth standing at a staggering $500 million. Even if that number was lower in 2013, it seems as if peeling $14 million off to gift to his friends wasn't something that hurt his bottom line terribly.

Going into 2018, the actor's net worth will likely even be substantially higher, thanks to sale of the tequila brand.

However, Clooney, who became a father to twins Ella and Alexander in June after wife Amal gave birth, has also admitted that he doesn't really need to work as an actor any longer, and instead of doing films where he plays a heartthrob, he's focusing more on making movies that he feels are worth fighting for.

"Acting used to be how I paid the rent, but I sold a tequila company for a billion f****** dollars. I don't need money," he said back in November. "I have money. So I can fight to make movies I want to make. If you look at what I've been in over the past 15 years, for the most part they weren't going to get made if I didn't do them."

Still, even a step back from acting doesn't seem like it will hurt the actor's bottom line in the end.
