Former President George W. Bush underwent a heart procedure Tuesday morning to place a stent in a blocked artery, Reuters reported.

Bush, 67, was operated on after doctors discovered the blockage on Monday during Bush's annual physcial. Doctors recommended a stent to open the blockage, and the surgery was completed at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, hospital officials said.

The former president was, "in high spirits, eager to return home tomorrow and resume his normal schedule on Thursday," hospital officials said.
