RTTNews - Germany's seasonally adjusted ILO jobless rate rose to 7.7% in April from 7.4% recorded in the same month of the previous year, the Federal Statistical Office said Thursday. That was in line with economists' expectations.

The number of unemployed amounted to a seasonally adjusted 3.34 million in April. Compared with the previous year, unemployment was up 150,000 persons or 4.8%. On a monthly basis, it was an increase of 60,000 persons or 2%.

At the same time, the number of persons in employment amounted to 39.96 million, down 130,000 persons from the previous year.

The statistical office said the wider utilization of cyclical short-term work reduced the negative effects of the recession on the employment trend.
