Tuesday, the Federal Statistical Office said German wholesale prices slipped 8.1% in April from the previous year, following March's 8% decrease. Wholesale prices, thus, logged the strongest annual fall since January 1987. Economists were expecting an annual 8.2% decline for April.

Meanwhile, wholesale prices increased on a monthly basis in April after declining for eight straight months. Compared to March, the index of wholesale prices edged up 0.1%, reversing a 0.9% fall in the prior month.
