A man who was fatally shot by police in Bexar County, Texas, on Friday was armed at the time, authorities said Wednesday. A second video of Gilbert Flores' shooting brings “more clarity” into last week’s incident, officials said.

An earlier video recorded by a bystander shows the 41-year-old, with hands up before being shot, though one of his arms is obscured from view. Police said that the new video, which has not been made public, reportedly shows Flores holding what looks like a blade.

"We believe it was a knife," Bexar County Sheriff Susan Pamerleau reportedly said, adding that the latest video will be examined by the Texas Department of Public Safety's crime lab, which will "try to enlarge and slow down the sequence" for "a better idea of exactly what he had in his hand."

Thomas J. Henry, who identified himself as a lawyer for the Flores family, told reporters Wednesday that he is pressing the district attorney to release the video.

"When you put your hands up in this country, I believe most people think that you're giving up and you're no longer a threat," he said, according to NBC News, adding that he is seeking to file a federal civil rights lawsuit.

The shooting occurred when San Antonio police officers Greg Vasquez and Robert Sanchez were responding to a domestic violence call. The deputies, who were not wearing body cameras, reportedly said that Flores resisted arrest. The two officers have been placed on administrative leave.

The FBI has opened a federal civil rights investigation into the incident "to determine whether a civil rights violation took place as a result of a deputy willfully engaging in the use of excessive or unjustified force," the agency's San Antonio office reportedly said Wednesday.
