From alcohol to drugs to school pranks, former 'X-Files' star Gillian Anderson's wild child past is nothing new. But a surprising detail about the actress is little known to the public: she's bisexual.

I was in a relationship with a girl for a long time when I was in high school, she admitted to Out magazine.

Yet her attraction to women wasn't a big deal, said the actress who was voted Most Bizarre and Most Likely to Be Arrested by her high school class.

If I had thought I was 100 percent gay, would it have been a different experience for me? she said to Out. Would it have been a bigger deal if shame had been attached to it and all those things that become huge life-altering issues for youngsters in that situation? It's possible that my attitude around it came, on some level, from knowing that I still liked boys.

Anderson decided to reveal this new side of herself because she's finally old enough to talk about it.

Everything that that kind of anarchistic attitude brings -- the inappropriate behavior it leads to, said the actress about her exploits as a teen, was how I chose to be in the world at that time, which was, you know, not what people did.

Anderson will star in the BBC drama 'Great Expectations' as Miss Havisham coming later this year.
