The U.S. version of 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' is stirring controversy even before its 2011 release. A new poster promoting the film shows actor Daniel Craig standing behind actress Rooney Mara with his protective arm wrapped across her, exposing her pierced nipple. See the poster here.

The 2011 film directed by David Fincher is a remake of the Swedish film of the same title, which starred Noomi Rapace as the indestructible Lisbeth Salander.

'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' is based off the novel by Swedish author and journalist Stieg Larsson, who passed away from a heart attack in 2004 shortly after the first book was published. All three novels were a success in Sweden and throughout Europe.

The 2009 Swedish film was the first installment of a trilogy that preceded 'The Girl Who played with Fire' and 'The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest.'

Rapace made the character famous and critics have doubted whether or not Mara, who was most recently seen in 'The Social Network,' will be able to portray the character with the same grit and gumption.

The story follows journalist Mikael Blomkvist (Craig, 'Quantum of Solace,' 'Casino Royale') and a young punk-goth heroine and talented computer hacker Lisbeth Slander (Mara, 'The Social Network,' 'A Nightmare on Elm Street'), who together search for a woman who has been missing for forty years.
