It’s official – Cory and Topanga will be returning to the small screen in the “Boy Meets World” reboot, “Girl Meets World!” The spin-off has been ordered to series and is set to premiere in 2014.

The new Disney series will follow Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard), the tween daughter of Cory (Ben Savage) and Topanga (Danielle Fishel), as she “embarks on an unforgettable middle school experience.” According to TV Line, Riley and her best friend Maya (Sabrina Carpenter) will have an interesting year under the watchful eye of Riley’s dad – who is their new history teacher, and Riley’s mom who is the owner of a “trendy afterschool hangout that specializes in pudding.”

Becoming a highly anticipated new series that is pulling on nostalgia heart strings, executive producer Michael Jacobs has been really driving home the fact that “Girl Meets World” is a different show from the long running “Boy Meets World” series.

“‘Girl meets World’ is a new show for a generation that will be rooted in the same kind of honest, comedic storytelling about coming of age and the importance of family and friendship that made ‘Boy Meets World’ so popular,” Jacobs said in a statement.

The series creator went into a little more detail about the premise of the new show while in Austin, Texas at the 2013 ATX Television Festival. “I think It’s really necessary for the audience to understand [‘Girl Meets World’ will be its own show],” he explained in a press conference. “My feeling is that the premise of the show is about these two girls having a friendship and going off into the world we know now. ‘Girl Meets World’ will be unique from ‘Boy Meets World’ in that way. However, it is the child of an original program. There is no way that I’m not going to include everyone that wants to be included on this piece, because they’re the genesis of the piece. For me, we may build a new house, but we are building it on ground, and that ground is ‘Boy.’”

While the original series was set in the suburbs of Philadelphia, “Girl Meets World” is already differing in the fact that it’s set in New York City. But the new scenery doesn’t mean we’ll only be seeing new faces. Although Shawn’s Rider Strong has kept a tight lid on whether or not he’d have a guest spot in the series, William Daniels Mr. Feeny is definitely confirmed to reprise his role for at least the pilot episode. Whether or not Mr. Feeny stays as a regular on the new show, Jacobs teased at ATX that Cory’s teaching style will be influenced by his former mentor. When the “Girl Meets World” pilot airs, viewers should keep an eye out for a small rectangle black board sitting on the chalk holder of Cory’s large classroom black board. The second, smaller black board has two words on it: “Do good.”

Fans of “Boy Meets World” will remember that “Do good” is one of the last pieces of advice that Mr. Feeny gave to Cory and the group before they left for New York City. Topanga asked if Mr. Feeny meant “Do well,” but the teacher said he meant exactly what he said – “Do good.”

“We’re taking it one step at a time. We’re being very cautious, very careful, at trying to honor the old show,” Ben Savage explained to reporters at ATX. “I do think that people are not just nostalgic but are eager to watch a type of show like ‘Boy Meets World.’ And I don’t think there are a lot of shows like that on TV anymore. And I think that in spite of how much things have changed in the world, people still want a show that they can relate to that’s comforting, that can make them laugh, that’s fun and that they can learn a lesson from.”
