"Glee" star Cory Monteith was found dead Saturday at the Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel in downtown Vancouver.

"We are so saddened to confirm that the reports on the death of Cory Monteith are accurate. We are in shock and mourning this tragic loss," said his publicist, Melissa Kates.

USA Today reports the first station that appears to have reported the news was CTV British Columbia, a local news outlet in Vancouver.

According to Vancouver police, Monteith, who played Finn Hudson on the show, was discovered at noon in his 21st floor hotel room. He checked in July 6 and had been scheduled to check out Saturday. After he missed his checkout time, hotel staff went to his room and found him.

"An autopsy is scheduled for Monday," said Vancouver Acting Police Chief Doug LePard. "The coroner will be determining the next steps with respect to establishing cause of death, but all indications are that there was no foul play."

The actor did have people over to his room on Friday night, but hotel surveillance camera show him returning to his room alone early the next morning, reports CNN.

Monteith had faced a tough battle with drugs, most recently admitting himself into a rehab center in March for substance addiction, reports Us Weekly. He left the facility on April 26.

In a 2011 interview with Parade magazine, the actor shared his early days as an "out of control" teen in Victoria, B.C. He shared that at 13, he drank and smoked marijuana following the divorce of his parents. He dropped out of high school at 16 and admitted that at that time "I had a serious problem."

He first went to rehab at 19 after an intervention was staged by his parents and friends.

"I did the stint but then went back to doing exactly what I left off doing," he said.

Monteith has been dating his fellow "Glee" co-star, Lea Michele, for more than a year. She shared her support for him with People when he began his stint in rehab this year, telling the magazine, "I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.

Members of the "Glee" cast took to Twitter to share their shock.

"Goodbye my amazing and beautiful friend," wrote Glee director Adam Shankman. "The lights in my world just grew dimmer. The world just lost one of our best. I love u so much…"

Mark Salling, who plays Puck on the show, tweeted a single word, "no."
