General Motors’ chairman and interim chief executive officer Ed Whitacre Jr. will permanently assume the title of CEO, according to a report.

The announcement will take today at the company’s headquarters in Detroit, two people briefed on the matter told the Wall Street Journal.

The company will also announce that it has ended its search for a new CEO and won’t look for a replacement for Whitacre while he is in the position, the report stated.
