Gold Fields, the world's No. 4 gold producer, on Tuesday suspended operations at four shafts at its Driefontein mine in South Africa after a worker died due to falling rocks, a company spokesman said.

Four shafts on the Western side of Driefontein have been closed until the safety inspections by the (Department of Mineral Resources) have been completed, Sven Lunsche said.

We don't know the impact on production yet as we don't know how long (the shafts) will be closed.
