Gold Apple iPhone 5S
The gold Apple iPhone 5S has been the preferred color choice for many people looking to purchase the handset. But, unfortunately for iPhone fans, the color was the first to sell out when the smartphone was released Friday. Reuters

If you haven’t successfully concluded your hunt for the gold-colored Apple iPhone 5S yet, there are a few places where you may be able to snag one of the elusive handsets. But be forewarned: The smartphone might come at a hefty price.

Before the release of the new iPhone 5S, concern began to grow regarding the availability of Apple’s new golden child, the gold-colored iPhone 5S. Unsurprisingly, this worry became reality during its release on Friday when low or nonexistent stocks of the gold-colored handset left droves of consumers empty-handed. Both Apple Store locations and major wireless carriers across the globe ran out of the smartphones.

There is still some pretty high-priced hope that you can get your hands on one of them, though. Just be ready to hand over more than two times the full price of the mobile device.

Many people who were able to purchase the highly prized handsets have now put their gold-colored iPhone 5S models on sale at sites such as eBay for as much as $1,800 each, Business Insider reported. In all, the site found 1,469 listings for the gold iPhone 5S on eBay alone on Friday evening. There are still a number of the phones for sale on the auction site.

Of course, it seems a tad excessive to drop the equivalent of the cost of two new iPhones simply to get your preferred color. But if you can’t ignore the alluringly radiant glow of the handset for another two weeks -- new shipments should arrive at retailers Oct. 1 -- there is a market full of sellers eager to grant your gold-hued wish.
