Google I/O 2013: Google Announces Google Play Game Services

At Google I/O on Wednesday, Android gaming got a big lift with the introduction of a new app called Google Play Game Services. The Mountain View, Calif., company said Google Play Game Services will synchronize several capabilities via its cloud, including save games, achievements and leaderboards. Users of Google Play Game Services will also be able to find and play multiplayer games.

During the presentation, a demo of "Riptide 2," a jet ski racing simulator was shown. Three players were on stage during the presentation attempting to play the game together via Google Play Game Services, but they failed to connect, drawing multiple cries of "aww" from the crowd in attendance.

Google announced that Google Play Game Services will be available for download today to anyone using an Android device running Android 2.2 Froyo and later.
