Search giant Google Inc. may invest into a joint venture that lays high-speed trans-Pacific cable under the ocean, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

Additional infrastructure for the Internet is good for users and there are a number of proposals to add a Pacific submarine cable, said a Google spokesman in a statement, declining to comment further.

The talks were reported earlier in Australia's Communications Day. The person familiar with the matter said the discussions remained fluid.

According to the Wall Street Journal's web site, the Mountain View based firm may use the expansion to push its business to business services, which require stable and consistent connections.
