Previous rumors had proposed Google's second-generation Nexus 7 tablet would release in July, and now, new and particularly damning evidence has surfaced suggesting the rumors are true.

An Asus representative reportedly divulged to an unnamed customer several details about the yet-to-be-unveiled second-gen Nexus 7 tablet, including its general specs and approximate release date. Screen captures shared by Google + user Tim P show an Asus live chat support window in which the representative all but unveils the next Nexus 7 himself.

Many have been referring to the new Nexus 7 by its supposed model number, Asus k009, which has surfaced in various FCC filings. The customer also calls the device by its model number, the name Nexus 7 is in fact never used; however, most are certain that the device being discussed is the second-generation Nexus 7.

According to the rep, the Asus k009 will release before the end of the second quarter, which equates to late July, a report that falls in step with several rumors that have proposed a July release.

Additionally, the rep says no specs for the Asus k009 or the Nexus 7 have been confirmed to the public; he gives a general rundown of what he calls internal specs, for the device.

These features are significantly toned down from the fanciful specs previously suggested for the new Nexus 7, which included a 7-inch 1920 x 1200 LTPS display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, or Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, LTE support, USB 3.0 support and QuickCharge 2.0 capability.

However they show several improvements from the original Nexus 7, which features a 7-inch 1280 x 800 LCD display, a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, a 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera and a 4,325 mAh battery.

These purported specs notably indicate that the new Nexus 7 will run the Android 4.3 operating system, which was recently ported from a Google Play Edition Samsung Galaxy S4 and made into firmware for the original Snapdragon 600 variant of the device. However, with Nexus brand devices known to be the first to power new versions of Android operating systems; many are certain that the upcoming device will be the first to ship with the upcoming operating system. The same FCC filings and also Bluetooth SIG filings that detailed the new Nexus 7’s Asus k009 model number have also indicated that the device will run Android 4.3.

Rumors have suggested that the new Nexus 7 is intended to be a device with spec upgrades from the original Nexus 7 that will sell at the same price as the first-generation tablet.

While it remains uncertain if this leak is real or fake, or if the leak was actually orchestrated by Asus, we do know that the Asus K009 is the model number for an actual yet-to-be-released device. Whether that device is a new Nexus 7 or a completely new device is also unknown; however, since we are now in July, we will be keeping our eyes peeled for further updates.
