Search giant Google has turned its Street View coverage more comprehensive than before with the launch of its biggest ever update that doubled special collections and updated over 250,000 miles of roads around the world, a blog post by Ulf Spitzer, Street View Program Manager, stated Thursday.

Apparently, the Street View coverage has increased in the U.S., Great Britain, Canada, Singapore, Macau, Thailand, Taiwan, Italy, Denmark, and Norway among others.

This apart, Google is launching special collections in South Africa, Japan, Spain, France, Brazil, and Mexico.

How It Helps Users

Users can explore many new places on Google Maps including castles, city centers and tourist attractions such as Stanley Park in Vancouver, Fort Canning Park in Singapore and Catherine Palace in Russia among others, from the confines of their home.

Street View puts Google at a significant advantage over competitor Apple's own Maps application in iOS6, The Verge noted, adding how the search giant recently featured iOS Street View capabilities in its maps web application following criticism over Apple's Maps.

Apparently, the company has also added time zone functionality into its Maps API, which furnishes information on the local time at a particular location, ZDNet has reported.

For accessing the Street View on iOS 6 via Google's web application, Apple users just need to point their web browsers to maps.google.com/streetview
