James Gorman, who takes over as Morgan Stanley's chief executive on January 1, plans to put finance chief Colm Kelleher and banker Paul Taubman in charge of the company's institutional securities unit, the Wall Street Journal reported citing a person familiar with the situation.

The shuffle has been planned in recent weeks by Gorman and the company is likely to name a new chief financial officer and announce other key appointments, the paper said.

Morgan Stanley could not immediately be reached for comment by Reuters.

In September, Morgan Stanley said its Chief Executive John Mack was stepping down and named retail brokerage head James Gorman as replacement.

Mack, however, will remain chairman of the company.
