The Batman origins show “Gotham” doesn't premiere until Sept. 22, but Fox has released a sneak peek for the first episode. "Gotham" Season 1 will follow Commissioner James Gordon as he starts out as a detective in Gotham. He’ll be dealing with the death of Bruce Wayne’s parents and the beginnings of some very famous villains. One of those villains -- the Penguin -- makes an appearance in the recently released clip.

In the sneak peek, Gordon meets Fish Mooney, a club owner in Gotham. The new detective wants to know why he heard screaming. Fish Mooney slyly replies that the boys are watching a horror movie in the back.

“Really?” Gordon asks.

“No, actually one of my staff has been stealing money from me,” Fish Mooney says. “So we’re beating his punk a--.”

Gordon goes out back to find four men beating up one of Fish’s staff members. Oswald Cobblepot is the smallest of the men, but he's using a bat for the occasion. The bigger men tell him to calm down.

“Take it easy, Penguin,” one man says.

“You know I don’t like to be called that,” Oswald says.

Gordon interrupts them and tells Oswald to drop the bat. He listens to Gordon’s orders, but the men say they’re just having fun. It seems that the criminals of Gotham aren’t too scared of the police. Apparently, there's plenty of corruption in the Gotham City PD.
