Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) is going to find someone else to fill in the void that was left by Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) in his life. Fox

Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) and Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) were as thick of thieves when “Gotham” Season 3 started, but a lot of things have happened that wrecked their once good relationship.

Before the winter break took place, Nygma even shot Cobblepot and left him for dead, although everyone knows it won’t be that easy to kill off the Penguin.

One would think that Nygma would be completely friendless now without Cobblepot, but TV Guide reported that he’s actually going to find someone else to fill the void.

As an intellectual, Nygma needs someone who can easily answer his riddles and ride his intellectual wave, and only one person really matches that in Gotham City: Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk). The two will reportedly forge a partnership this season, although it’s not built to last because Fox isn’t willing to help Nygma carry out his evil plans.

As for Cobblepot, Cinema Blend reported that he’s going to change drastically after his shooting incident. Executive producer John Stephens said Nygma’s action is going to turn Cobblepot “quite hard in the opposite direction.”

“We really saw a softer side of Oswald through a lot of this year. The Oswald who rises again is going to be someone who is much darker and much more vicious,” he said. “He's not letting anyone inside the way he did with Ed, in a way that he feels makes him weak.”

The upcoming “Gotham” episode is entitled “How the Riddler Got His Name.” Its synopsis, which was shared by Screen Rant, shares how Nygma is going to transition as the Riddler. It reads: “Nygma convinces himself that he doesn’t need Penguin to succeed and begins to introduce himself to Gotham as ‘The Riddler.’ Bullock and Lucius Fox get caught up in Nygma’s mind games, while Gordon learns troubling news about his father’s death. Meanwhile, the Court of the Owls reveals its next move.”

“Gotham” returns on Monday, April 24 on FOX.
