The Mad Hatter (Benedict Samuel), also known as Jervis Tetch, will finally be introduced in the “Gotham” Season 3 episode next week.

His intention in Gotham City is clear: to look for his sister Alice (Naian Gonzales Norvind). But will the villain only be making enemies and not forging alliances?

Samuel told Blastr that there’s actually one villain Jervis would be drawn to: Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith). “I definitely think there could be a kinship with Nygma. They could spend all day having tea, and kind of shooting the breeze with rhymes back and forth,” he said. “I am not sure if that will happen or not. I don’t know how exciting that would be to just see a scene where they are riddling back and forth. That would be cool. I think Jervis looks for people who have secrets.”

But whatever the case, Samuel doesn’t think that friendship would last long, since Jervis is a very selfish guy who will stop at nothing to find Alice. “Jervis Tetch bends people to his will. He is not concerned about the world; he is concerned about himself,” he said.

One friendship that might last, however, belongs to Nygma and Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor). Co-executive producer John Stephens told TV Insider that Penguin and Nygma will “become a real duo for the first half of the season” as they try to stake their claim in the city.

Taylor told Variety that it’s important for his character to forge stronger alliances this season, especially since Fish Mooney (Jada Pinkett Smith) has come back with new and terrifying powers.

“In light of what happened to Penguin last year, losing both his parents, being cast out by everyone he trusted, he has a big hole in his life,” Taylor said of Penguin. “He needs allies, he needs people by his side, so his connection with Nygma falls right into that.”

“Gotham” airs every Monday at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
