The Joker (Cameron Monaghan) will form an unlikely partnership with the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor) in “Gotham” Season 4. FOX

The Joker (Cameron Monaghan), also known as Jerome Valezka, made a big comeback in “Gotham” Season 3 after he was resurrected from the dead by his crazed followers.

But before his reign of terror can begin, he was promptly taken down by the cops and sent to Arkham Asylum. It seemed like his storyline was once again closed, but this coming Season 4, executive producer John Stephens told Comic Book that his villainous streak will be utilized once again.

“You're totally gonna see him this year,” said Stephens. “You're gonna see him in a new position this year, and he’s gonna form an alliance with a character who he has not been near at any time soon.”

It would be interesting to see who the Joker teams up with, since he best operates as a lone wolf. But Stephens said that a partnership between the Joker and the Penguin (Robin Lord Taylor), also known as Oswald Cobblepot, actually made sense.

“Essentially, we're gonna see him and Oswald Cobblepot come closer,” Stephens teased.

Together, the Joker and the Penguin will go head to head with another villain team-up. Ed Nygma (Cory Michael Smith), who will escape his ice block prison, will be getting some assistance from the zombie Solomon Grundy (Drew Powell). They will also join forces with a very different Dr. Leslie “Lee” Thompkins (Morena Baccarin).

“We have all these families that are being created this year, and one of the families is going to be a brand new and very different Lee Tompkins, together with Ed Nygma and Solomon Grundy, who is Butch Gilzean obviously,” Stephens told Cinema Blend. “When Butch becomes Solomon Grundy, he doesn’t remember his former life, so when he runs into Ed Nygma, he doesn’t remember that he wants to rip his head off. And Ed, who is suffering the effects of being frozen for three months, needs Grundy’s help to get strong again. The three of them form this weird little family.”

“Gotham” Season 4 will premiere on Sept. 21 on FOX.
