Katie tries to up her cool factor with her friends in the next episode of “Great News.”

According to the synopsis for Season 2, episode 5 of the NBC series, Katie (Briga Heelan) realizes that while she has been working her way up at MMN, her friends have been getting married, having kids, and buying houses in New Jersey. Feeling pressure to impress them on Instagram with the hip New York City lifestyle that she has chosen instead, she lucks into going to a very cool Halloween party with Portia (Nicole Richie).

As The Hollywood Reporter revealed last September, “Saturday Night Live” star Cecily Strong will guest star in the episode as Jessica, one of Katie’s old friends who traded in her single city life for a husband and kids in New Jersey. After Jessica throws a wildly elaborate gender-reveal party, Katie begins to question her life choices, envying her friend’s seemingly Pinterest-perfect life in the suburbs.

Elsewhere in the episode, Chuck (John Michael Higgins) has been asked to use a new smart screen on “The Breakdown.” But in an attempt to get out of this seemingly impossible task, Chuck tries to convince Carol (Andrea Martin) that it is possessed.

This isn’t the first time the show has shown Chuck’s aversion to anything new. In Season 2, episode 2, Chuck was tasked to produce “The Breakdown’s” first ever Snapchat newsisodes as part of the show’s plan to attract more number of younger viewers. But Chuck made it clear right off the bat that he’s not going to do it. “I hate it. Not gonna do it,” the news anchor told the news program’s executive producer Greg (Adam Campbell).

When Katie begged Chuck to do it, he said: “Sure, I love digital content. I just need some makeup, my favorite suit and some embalming fluid because I’ll be doing that over my dead body!”

At the end of the episode, no one had successfully convinced Chuck to do the Snapchat newsisodes. But Katie, who was acting as the executive producer at the time, came up with a clever idea to produce the segment just in time. She used Portia’s “Wash Dish, Bish” video and re-cut it into Snapchat newsisodes.

“Great News” Season 2, episode 5, titled “Night of the Living Screen,” airs on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 9:30 p.m. EDT on NBC.
